• What Makes Us Different?

  • Freshness and Quality

Only quality, fresh, homegrown or wild-crafted herbs. No big company herbs with foreign origins and unknown harvest dates.

  • Organic Principles

Homegrown and Chemical Free. No herbicides, no pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

  • Process

Most herbs are dried in a dark well-ventilated place. Then coarse cut by hand before being stored in glass jars. This helps to preserve color and freshness longer.

  • Small Batches

We offer small batch products, made with tested proven recipes. These include locally sourced, homegrown or wild-crafted ingredients
    as they are available.

  • Respect for Nature

    Ethically wildcrafted from large populations
with sustainability in mind. These herbs are often found in areas where most people don’t venture. We focus on invasive ‘weed’ species wherever possible and always keep ecosystem health a high priority.

Backcountry Herbs was created in 2020 to provide you with quality herbs for any application. Our harvesting and growing practices are grounded in respect for nature and her cycles. We stress respectful gardening and harvesting, being ever mindful of the plants, ecosystems, sustainability and planet health. All the beautiful herbs you find offered at Backcountry Herbs are wild-crafted from the surrounding wilderness or grown in our garden and hand-processed with care.

Ann Burks
Founding Herbalist

Ann has been an Usui Reiki Master since 2001 and has been dabbling in alternative healing methods since that time. She has attended The HomeGrown School of Botanical Medicine (Clinical Herbalism with animal applications), the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine (Herbal Immersion Program), and The School of Evolutionary Herbalism (Astro Herbalism/Medical Astrology) courses. She has also completed the University of Idaho’s Master Gardener program to expand her gardening knowledge and facilitate growing the best herbs possible. She is drawn to helping people find balance to hidden health issues in a Vitalistic manner, with the help of herbs and lifestyle changes. She is deeply connected to the old ways of growing and harvesting plants.

Ann currently resides in Eastern Idaho on a magical 3-acre mini farmette, complete with her herb garden, horses, a dog and cat and occasionally other critters. She resides with her long-term partner John, who takes her on many wonderful wilderness adventures; hiking, fishing, camping, horseback riding, and of course, photographing and gathering herbs.
